Summary: This dissertation aims to analyze the new developmentalism proposed by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (CEPAL) in an attempt to demonstrate the impacts and challenges generated by adopting this new approach in Brazilian education under President Luís Inácio Lula da Silva. The political context chosen by the research was a moment in which the influence of the new developmentalism in the Brazilian politics was more evidenced, from the adoption of its guidelines, in the economic, political and social areas. As an object of analysis used to discuss the proposed theme, bibliographical surveys and studies were carried out in several documents produced by CEPAL and Brazilian legislation that instituted the main educational programs elaborated and modified throughout the Lula government. Starting from a critical analysis, it was evident the approach of the new developmentalism with the neoliberal ideas and it was demonstrated an imposition of the directives imposed by the market on the education.
