Summary: The research proposes to talk about the professional work of social workers inserted in therapeutic communities subsidized by resources from the state of Espírito Santo. This is a qualitative study on the insertion of Social Work in therapeutic communities, given the relationships determined by the interaction of concrete and abstract work. We conducted a field research, WHERE we chose to collect data via questionnaire and conduct interviews with a semi-structured script 05 therapeutic communities with active accreditation at the State Secretariat for Drug Policy were selected until July 2019, and subsidized with public resources by the government of Espírito Santo, and a total of 06 social
workers were interviewed. It starts with the analysis of the work category in
order to understand the challenges of materializing the professional project,
in the context of a deepening of the capital crisis and conservatism. Thus,
an attempt is made to unveil the offensive to the ethical-political project
in the face of the radicalization of precarious work, based on the
advancement of neoliberal ideas and attacks on social policies. We present
the model of care for therapeutic communities, given the current austerity
policy of the Brazilian State that has been expanding partnerships between
the public and the private sector, in the face of a long process of
dismantling social policies. Especially here dealt with drug policies and
mental health. In these terms, in the socio-occupational space of therapeutic
communities subsidized with public resources from the State of Espírito
Santo, and which has been hiring social workers to care for those who abuse
drugs, we seek to talk about the professional work developed by Social Work.
