Summary: The work that now comes to the public is an analysis of the experience of transvestites in the Capixaba prison system, based on the reports of two transvestites from the prison system of the state of Espírito Santo and a militant woman, collected through semi-structured individual interviews . We also used notes made in the field diary during the interviews and during visits to the Capixabas Prison Units. It was proposed to perform a historical-dialectical materialist analysis, based on texts by Marx and Engels, as well as the ontology of social being as worked out by Lukács and the contributions of the French Materialist Feminism. We defend the use of the categories social relations of sex, race / ethnicity, class, as well as conceptions of sex classes to understand the determinations of the experience of the subjects of the research with the prison and with the society outside it. These categories are important, mainly, for the construction of strategies of collective struggle. When we understand transvestites as components of what we call women's classes in a more abstract analysis, we defend their incorporation into the feminist struggle, which has met with resistance in various groups in Brazil. We do not, therefore, defend a "new" [transformation of the old] identity [although identities are needed in a more immediate way, that is, for access to public policies, for example], but a unity of several, having in common the origins of violence and exploitation, which is driven by internal and external contradictions, and which has the potential of being stimulated in a social transformation perspective, as outlined in the Code of Ethics of Social Workers.
