Summary: This research aimed to analyze the reproduction of the lives of those indebted by the Fundo de Financiamento Estudantil (FIES). For this, theoretical-bibliographic research was carried out and, empirically, were interviewed, using the snowball technique and semi-structured interview, graduates of pedagogy and law courses from Private Higher Education Institutions located in Greater Vitória and who started the undergraduate course between 2010 and 2015, which marked one of the biggest changes in FIES with the decrease in the interest rate and the end of the need for a guarantor to sign the contract , in addition to the restriction of spending on this program, due to the austerity policies adopted by the federal government. , housing, health, among others, it was necessary to look for the determinants in the financialization of education, more particularly in the debate about public and private student credit, seeking to answer whether this credit policy is student for insertion in higher education was a viable path to poverty reduction.
